Recreation

Lake Garda features three sandy beaches that are popular with swimmers. Moore Beach is located by the dam on the north side of the lake at the intersection of Lake Street and Jefferson Street.  Battistoni Beach is on Lake Street in Burlington (on the Unionville side) and is on the more southern part of the lake.  Children’s Beach is on the Burlington side of the lake off of Beach Street.  Each beach is different but enjoyable in their own way.

With its natural springs and gentle current, the lake is consistently among the areas cleanest. Fisherman come to the lake in search of bass, carp and a variety of other fish. Anglers can often be found on the shore, on vessels, and even on the ice. Boating offers a particularly peaceful way to pass time at the lake. While no motorized boats are permitted on the lake, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, paddleboats, and paddleboards are popular choices.

For those who prefer to travel by foot, walkers can take advantage of a series of wooded trails that run near and along the lakeshore. For details, see our trail map by clicking here.

Sunbathers are lured by the sun, sand, and serenity of our beaches, making beach towels and umbrellas popular sights on warm summer days.

Residents often visit beach areas to share a relaxing meal with others. The largest of such events is our annual community picnic, which features food, games and a bouncy house!

The lake area is home to a rich variety of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Ducks and geese are frequent visitors, while patience and attentiveness is often rewarded with sightings of more reclusive creatures, such as turtles, frogs, groundhogs, rabbits, bears, herons, cranes and swans.
